WEST HILLS, Calif. (July 28, 2015) — West Hills Hospital & Medical Center, a full-service acute care facility, announces its recent recognition as a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Accredited Chest Pain Center. Sanctioned by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), this PCI accreditation means the West Hills Hospital’s Chest Pain Center is recertified. The original certification was granted in 2006 making it the first accredited hospital in Los Angeles County. SCPC Accredited Chest Pain Centers are recognized for achieving a higher level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack
West Hills Hospital adds this PCI accreditation to a growing list of achievements in heart-related health care. Recently, the hospital’s Regional Heart & Vascular Institute rose to the top 10 percent in the nation for its heart attack response times. West Hills Hospital also offers 24/7 emergency cardiac care to patients experiencing a cardiac episode, and its institute offers specialized critical care, an official STEMI receiving center and an expert electrophysiology team.
As a select SCPC Chest Pain Center with PCI accreditation, West Hills Hospital has demonstrated specific expertise in the following areas:
- Integrating the emergency department with the local emergency medical system
- Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients quickly
- Effectively treating patients with low risk for acute coronary syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms
- Continually seeking to improve processes and procedures
- Ensuring the competence and training of Accredited Chest Pain Center personnel
- Maintaining organizational structure and commitment
- Having a functional design that promotes optimal patient care
- Supporting community outreach programs that educate the public to promptly seek medical care if they display symptoms of a possible heart attack
“With 600,000 people dying annually of heart disease in the U.S. and more than five million Americans visiting hospitals each year with chest pain, accreditation for having an efficient response to heart emergencies is good news for everyone in the community because it saves lives,” said West Hills Hospital & Medical Center’s Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer, Stephanie Mearns, MN, RN.
